Marine aluminium calculators and tools

Eighteen free calculators and reference tables for marine aluminium — plate and sheet weight by shape, boat hull plate area, bend allowance, weld filler, container loading, plus density, specification and corrosion checkers. Built around the 5xxx grades we supply: 5083, 5086, 5754, 5052 and 5059.

GuideStart here

If you are pricing a job, start with weight by shape — that is what most buyers need first. If you are sizing a boat, start with hull plate area and let it feed the weight tools. Everything else is here to answer the questions that come up before an order is placed: how it bends, how it welds, how it fits a container, and whether the alloy you picked is the right one.

All weights use the grade you select; nothing is hard-coded to a single alloy.

Rule of thumb: plate is almost always ordered in full sheets. Use the calculators to get close, then let us confirm the cut plan — we will tell you the shortest cut length that still fits a container.

People also ask

Are these calculators free to use?

Yes. Every tool on this page is free, needs no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent to us.

Which alloy density do the weight calculators use?

Each calculator has a grade selector. The 5xxx marine grades — 5083, 5086 and 5754 — are all 2,680 kg/m³; 5052 is the same; 5059 is 2,700 and 6061 is 2,700. The full list is on the density table.

Are the numbers accurate enough for a real order?

They are the same formulas we use internally, and every one has been checked against independent calculations. Treat the output as a planning figure: buy plate in full sheets, allow for cutting loss, and expect the mill certificate weight to differ by 1–3%.

Do you supply the plate these tools calculate?

Yes. We supply 5083, 5086, 5754, 5052 and 5059 plate in H116 and H321, from 1.5 mm sheet up to 50 mm plate, with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates. Our partner mills hold DNV certification.
