Other 5xxx grades we supply

Same marine family, different balance of strength, formability and service temperature.

Which temper do you need?

Pick the stabilised temper for the exposure and forming requirements of each part.

General use
H111

The workhorse temper for superstructures, tanks and general marine fabrication.

  • 240 MPa tensile / 130 MPa proof min
  • Good weldability
  • Excellent formability
H112

Hot-rolled plate temper for thicker sections and welded structures.

  • Lower strength, high ductility
  • Used in deck house sides
  • Tanks and bulkheads
H32 / H34

Strain-hardened sheet for panels and interior work.

  • Higher strength than H111
  • Good fatigue resistance
  • Used in small craft superstructure

Where 5754 plate is used on board

5754 plate thickness starts at 3 mm; heavier sections carry primary loads.

Superstructure sides

5754-H111 plate forms deck house walls, bulkheads and bridge wings.

3–12 mm

Tanks & bunkers

Welded tanks for fuel, water and lube oil where strength requirements are moderate.

3–10 mm

General fabrication

Brackets, foundations and non-load-bearing structures across the vessel.

3–20 mm

Small craft hulls

Lower strength is acceptable for small boats and fishing craft.

3–8 mm

Why 5754 wins in marine service

Four numbers that decide the specification.

15–20%lighter than steel

Same section modulus, lower center of gravity and fuel burn.

ER5356matched weld filler

Compatible filler chemistry keeps joints corrosion-resistant without post-weld heat treatment.

65 °Cservice ceiling

For long-term service above this, 5454 is the usual alternative.

  • Stabilised tempers: H116/H321 keep intergranular and exfoliation corrosion low in continuous immersion and splash zones.
  • Lot-release testing: ASTM G66 ASSET and G67 NAMLT confirm resistance to sensitisation before shipment.
  • Design matters: isolate aluminum from dissimilar metals, avoid standing water in crevices, and stay below the 65 °C long-term ceiling.

Actual rates depend on local water chemistry, design and maintenance.

5754 is chosen when ease of forming and welding outweighs the need for 5083-level strength.

Frequently asked questions

What is 5754 used for on ships?

Superstructures, deck houses, tanks, bulkheads and general fabricated parts where high formability is needed.

Which temper should I order?

H111 for most marine sheet and plate. H112 for hot-rolled thicker plate. H32/H34 for higher-strength panels.

Is 5754 as corrosion resistant as 5083?

Very good, but 5083 is preferred for continuous immersion and splash zones. 5754 is excellent for superstructure and tanks.

Can 5754 be welded?

Yes. ER5356 is the standard filler; strength loss in the heat-affected zone is normal and allowed for in design.

What thickness range can you supply?

Plate 3–50 mm, sheet 0.5–6 mm, coil slit to width.

Does 5754 meet marine classification?

Yes. DNV and other major societies approve 5754 for non-primary marine structures; certification is available on request.

What certificate comes with each batch?

EN 10204 3.1 MTC, issued by the producing mill and countersigned by our QC team.

Can you supply cut-to-size 5754 plate?

Yes — send dimensions or a nesting file for a quote.

Need a 5754 marine plate quotation?

Send grade, temper, thickness, width and quantity — we quote against current mill availability.
