SUMMARY
Marine-grade aluminum plate refers to a type of aluminum alloy that is specifically designed and manufactured for use in marine environments. It is also known as marine aluminum or shipbuilding aluminum. This type of aluminum plate is highly resistant to corrosion and has excellent properties that make it suitable for marine applications.
With the improvement of domestic aluminum plate production technology, Delin Aluminum, a marine aluminum supplier of AOYIN METALS, has gradually expanded its marine plate supply range, increasingly enriched its alloy types, and its products have passed the ship classification certification with reliable quality.

5083 aluminum plate
The 5083 marine-grade aluminium plate exceptional resistance to seawater corrosion, excellent welding properties, and durability make it the preferred material for building high-speed boats, yachts, and other vessels.
5083 marine grade aluminum the common temper is H116,H321,the common width and length are 2000×6000(mm),2000×8000(mm),1500×6000(mm),1500×8000(mm).
5052 aluminum plate
The type of 5052 marine grade aluminum both H32 and H34 tempers are well-suited for marine applications as they provide the necessary strength and corrosion resistance required for marine structures and components. They are commonly used in boat hulls, decks, and other marine parts.
5086 aluminum plate
5086 marine-grade aluminum alloy also has excellent corrosion resistance and high strength, making it suitable for building workboats, fishing boats, cargo ships, and marine equipment.

How to choose a marine aluminum grade: 5083 vs 5086 vs 5454 vs 5754
These four 5xxx alloys are all aluminum-magnesium (Al-Mg) marine grades. They share one core advantage — strong seawater corrosion resistance and good weldability — but their magnesium (Mg) content shifts the balance between strength and long-term corrosion stability.
| Grade | Mg content | Relative strength | Seawater corrosion | Best suited for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5083 | ~4.5% | Highest | Very good | Main hulls, structural plate, LNG/storage tanks |
| 5086 | ~4.0% | High | Best of the four | Hulls where corrosion is the top priority, warm-climate service |
| 5454 | ~2.7% | Moderate | Excellent | Welded tanks, moderate-load structures |
| 5754 | ~3.1% | Moderate | Very good | Fuel tanks, fittings, small boats, non-structural parts |
The one rule that matters most: higher Mg gives you more strength, but also raises the risk of sensitization — a slow corrosion attack along grain boundaries when the metal is held at 65–200 °C for long periods. If your part runs hot for years (engine room, exhaust areas, tropical bilge water), choose a lower-Mg grade like 5086 or 5454 in an H116/H321 temper. If you need maximum strength and the service stays cool, 5083 is the workhorse.
