Aluminium sheet and plate weight calculator
Calculate the weight of rectangular aluminium sheet or plate from length, width, thickness and alloy. The standard form for hull, deck and bulkhead plate.

Plate dimensions
Material
Formula
Weight (kg) = length × width × thickness × ρ
Use consistent units: the calculator works in the dimensions shown. ρ is alloy density in kg/m³.

Aluminium alloy density table (kg/m³)
| Alloy | Density (kg/m³) | Common form |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminium 1100 | 2710 | sheet, foil |
| Aluminium 2011 | 2820 | bar, machined parts |
| Aluminium 2024 | 2780 | plate, aerospace |
| Aluminium 3003 | 2730 | sheet, coil |
| Aluminium 5052 (marine, our stock) | 2680 | sheet, plate |
| Aluminium 5083 (marine, our stock) | 2680 | plate, hull |
| Aluminium 5086 (marine, our stock) | 2680 | plate, hull |
| Aluminium 5454 | 2680 | sheet, plate |
| Aluminium 5754 (marine, our stock) | 2680 | sheet, plate |
| Aluminium 5059 (marine, on request) | 2700 | high-strength plate |
| Aluminium 6061 | 2700 | structural, profile |
| Aluminium 6063 | 2700 | profile, extrusions |
| Aluminium 7075 | 2810 | plate, aerospace |
Densities are nominal values at room temperature. Marine 5xxx grades (5052/5083/5086/5754/5454) all sit at 2680 kg/m³; alloy 5059 is slightly higher (2700) due to higher magnesium content. Sources: ASM Handbook Vol. 2, EN 485-2.
Aluminium plate weight per square metre (5083, ρ = 2680 kg/m³)
Use this table for a quick lookup of nominal weight per square metre for marine plate. Multiply by total square metres for batch weight; multiply by density ratio for other alloys.
| Thickness | kg / m² | kg / standard sheet 1 m × 2 m |
|---|---|---|
| 1 mm | 2.68 | 5.36 |
| 1.5 mm | 4.02 | 8.04 |
| 2 mm | 5.36 | 10.72 |
| 3 mm | 8.04 | 16.08 |
| 4 mm | 10.72 | 21.44 |
| 5 mm | 13.40 | 26.80 |
| 6 mm (typical hull) | 16.08 | 32.16 |
| 8 mm | 21.44 | 42.88 |
| 10 mm (deck / bulkhead) | 26.80 | 53.60 |
| 12 mm | 32.16 | 64.32 |
| 15 mm | 40.20 | 80.40 |
| 20 mm (transom / keel) | 53.60 | 107.20 |
| 25 mm | 67.00 | 134.00 |
| 30 mm (heavy structural) | 80.40 | 160.80 |
| 40 mm | 107.20 | 214.40 |
| 50 mm | 134.00 | 268.00 |
For 5086 / 5754 / 5052 (ρ = 2680 kg/m³) the values are the same. For 5059 (ρ = 2700 kg/m³) multiply by 1.0075; for 6061/6063 (ρ = 2700) multiply by 1.0075; for 7075 (ρ = 2810) multiply by 1.048. Standard marine 5xxx mill sheet is 1 m × 2 m or 1.25 m × 2.5 m; mill plate thickness tolerance is per EN 485-3.
Example
A 5083 plate 2,000 mm × 1,000 mm × 6 mm weighs about 32.2 kg.
