| 3003 | 0.3–6 | ≤1,500 | ≤4,000 | O / H14 / H24 | ASTM B209, EN 485 | General sheet, not marine-primary. |
| Tolerance | ASTM B928 typical | EN 485 typical | When to specify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thickness | ±0.25 mm (6 mm plate) up to ±0.6 mm (40 mm plate) | EN 485-3 Table 1 — class A or B | Class A for general hull, class B for tight-tolerance fabrication. |
| Width | +10 / 0 mm (mill edge), +5 / 0 mm (slit edge) | EN 485-3 Table 2 | Mill edge for general, slit edge for tight fit-up. |
| Length | +15 / 0 mm | EN 485-3 Table 3 | Standard mill cut. For ±2 mm, request tight tolerance on the PO. |
| Flatness | ASTM B928 Table 4 | EN 485-3 Table 4 | Critical for automated welding lines. Spec at PO time. |
| Edge condition | Mill edge / slit edge / machined edge | EN 485-3 §4.4 | Mill edge is default. Slit or machined for fabrication fit-up. |
People also ask
Why is 5083 available thicker than 5086 or 5052?
5083 has a wider rolling temperature window and more forgiving hot-rolling behavior — the mill can roll it down to thinner gauges or up to thicker gauges without cracking. 5086 is similar but caps slightly thinner; 5052 is rolled cold from a 5083-type master coil and is limited to lighter gauges.
Can I get 2,000 mm wide × 6 mm × 6,000 mm 5083 H116?
Yes — this is a standard stocked size at most partner mills. Lead time typically 30–45 days from PO. If you need cut-to-length from a wider master coil, our slit partner can deliver in 7–10 days for thin gauges (≤3 mm).
What’s the difference between EN 485 and ASTM B928 for marine plate?
EN 485 is the European standard covering the full 5xxx family across all product forms. ASTM B928 is the US standard specifically for marine aluminum plate. Both cite similar chemistry and mechanical requirements. Class society rules accept either — pick the one your yard or buyer is more familiar with.
Can I order plate outside these ranges?
Outside the listed ranges, you are asking the mill to do a custom rolling. Possible but expensive and slow. For thicknesses above 50 mm, the mill usually supplies forged or machined block instead. For widths above 2,650 mm, only a few mills in the world can roll it, and lead time is measured in months.
What about the GB/T 3880 standard?
GB/T 3880 is the Chinese national standard, harmonized with EN 485 for chemistry and mechanics. Most Chinese partner mills are certified to both GB/T 3880 and EN 485 simultaneously. If your buyer accepts GB/T 3880, lead times are typically shorter because the stock is in-country.
