BUYER QUESTIONS

Ten questions marine buyers ask before the first PO — answered.

Plain answers from a marine plate and sheet supplier. We keep the same five facts visible across this FAQ: 5xxx series, H116 / H321 temper, mill-direct, EN 10204 3.1 MTC per batch, DNV-witnessed MTC per order.

Q01
What grades do you supply?
+
We supply 5xxx marine plate and sheet: 5083 / 5086 / 5754 / 5052 / 5059, in marine tempers H116 / H321 / H111 / H112 (and H32 / H34 / H114 for sheet and tread plate). Mill-standard plate sizes (e.g. 2000×6000, 2500×8000 mm) move on regular cycle. Custom dimensions: ask for a quote and we’ll confirm what’s possible against the producing mill’s production window. Lead time and MOQ stay the same as our standard plate.

Q02
What thickness ranges are available for each grade?
+
Standard thickness ranges by form:

  • 5083 plate — 3–50 mm · 5083 sheet — 1–8 mm
  • 5086 plate — 3–25 mm
  • 5754 plate — 3–12 mm · 5754 tread plate — 1.5–6 mm base (5-bar)
  • 5052 sheet — 1.5–8 mm
  • 5059 plate — 3–50 mm

Thickness tolerances follow EN 485-3:2003 — see the Capabilities page for the standard tolerance bands.

Q03
What’s your minimum order quantity?
+
1 metric ton per alloy / per size. As a rule of thumb, that’s roughly 4 sheets of 8 × 2000 × 6000 mm in 5083 H116. Repeat orders and trial shipments can be smaller in some cases — ask and we’ll confirm against the producing mill’s rolling window.

Q04
What’s the typical lead time?
+
30–45 days from PO + 30% T/T deposit, subject to the producing mill’s rolling schedule. Mill-standard sizes sit at the shorter end; custom sizes sit at the longer end. A confirmed lead time is written into the PI before deposit.

Q05
Do you offer DNV certification?
+
Yes. The producing mill is approved by DNV for the rolled-plate programme, and DNV-witnessed MTC is issued per order — the surveyor stamps and signs the 3.1 certificate at the mill before the plate leaves. Current DNV coverage: 5083 H116 rolled plates 3–50 mm. Other major classification societies (ABS · BV · LR · CCS · NK · RINA) are arranged on request.

Q06
Do you provide MTC per batch?
+
Yes. EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate issued per heat, one certificate per batch. The heat number on the certificate matches the roll mark stamped on each plate — that’s the chain your QC team traces. DNV-witnessed MTC accompanies the order when the buyer is under DNV coverage.

Q07
What payment terms do you accept?
+
T/T 30% deposit + 70% before shipment, or L/C at sight. Other terms considered for repeat buyers. Payment terms are written into the PI before the deposit — no midstream changes.

Q08
What Incoterms do you quote?
+
FOB · CFR · CIF · DDP. Most first-time buyers take CIF or CFR for sea freight; DDP works when the destination customs process is straightforward. The freight quote is calculated against the actual container load — a 20’GP typically carries 18–22 t for marine plate.

Q09
Do you supply 6 系 profiles / sections to complement my plate order?
+
Yes — see our Aluminum Profile range for the section list and the related profile items linked under it. For 6 系 profiles / sections (e.g. 6061 / 6082 / 6005A extrusions) to complement your plate order, send us the section drawing and we’ll quote what’s available.

Q10
Do you supply 3003 / 1050 / 1100 for cabin interiors?
+
Our marine plate and sheet range covers 5083 / 5086 / 5754 / 5052 / 5059. For non-structural interior panels, 5052 H32 in 1–3 mm is our most common alternative — it gives better corrosion resistance than 3xxx at the same thickness. Send the panel size and quantity, and we’ll quote it as part of the same shipment.
